Direct connect network
Overview
A direct connect network refers to a network infrastructure that spans multiple cloud computing platforms from different cloud service providers. It allows organizations to distribute their applications, data, and workloads across multiple cloud environments, rather than relying on a single cloud provider. A direct connect network provides secure and high-performance connectivity between different cloud platforms, enabling communication and data transfer among various cloud environments.
In which geographical regions can I connect compute instances via the direct connect network? - FAQ
The direct connect network consists of three macroregions: EMEA, AMER, APAC.
- EMEA - Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
- AMER - North and South America.
- APAC - East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Islands.
Users can utilize the direct connect network in any of these macroregions, as well as connect these macroregions into a single network.
Which cloud providers can be connected in the direct connect network? - FAQ
Currently, the direct connect network includes the following cloud providers: AWS, GCP, Azure. Users decide which of these cloud providers to connect to the direct connect network.
How to use the direct connect network? - FAQ
The direct connect network is disabled by default. If you wish to connect, for example, AWS and GCP compute instances in one macroregion, you need to enable the direct connect network in that macroregion, then enable the GCP and AWS connections within this macroregion. If you wish to connect compute instances from AWS and GCP across two macroregions, you need to enable two direct connect networks, enable the GCP connection in one macroregion, and the AWS connection in the other, followed by enabling a cross-region connection.
How to connect compute instances to the direct connect network? - FAQ
- When adding a compute instance (a virtual machine or spot instance), choose the network option: “Direct connect” on the “Settings” page in the wizard. The compute instance will be connected to the direct connect network in its macroregion. (It is also possible to choose the “Direct connect” option for a compute instance when the network is disabled in the macroregion. The instance will be connected when the network is enabled.)
Information on this page
The statistics summary at the top of the page only includes enabled networks and connections:
- Direct connect network regions
- Cross-region connections
- Cloud connections

The management of the direct connect network is divided into three blocks according to the three macroregions: EMEA, AMER, APAC. Each network is disabled by default. After enabling the network, you can select the cloud providers to connect in the network: AWS, GCP, Azure.
Each direct connect network has 1 Gbps bandwidth by default. For adjusting bandwidth, please contact us using support tickets.
Actions you can perform on this page
- Enable/disable direct connect network in EMEA, AMER, or APAC macroregion. To enable the direct connect network in the selected macroregion, click on the "Enable" button. Select the location of a connectivity center. Choose the nearest location to your compute instances. You can disable the network at any time. When disabling the network, all its connections are also disabled. No additional fee is charged for disabling the network.
- Enable/disable cloud connections in the network (AWS, GCP, Azure). You need to enable connections for the cloud providers you want to connect in the macroregion. Click on the "Enable" button next to the connection. The connection will change its status to "Enabling" and then to "Enabled". You can enable and disable connections at any time.
- Enable/disable cross-region connections (two for each macroregion). Cross-region connections are necessary for connecting compute instances in different macroregions. To enable cross-region connections, first enable two networks. Click on the "Enable" button next to the connection (you may do it in either of the two networks). The connection will change its status to "Enabling" and then to "Enabled" in both networks. You can enable and disable connections at any time.
- Important Notice Changes to Direct connect network are applied at the Project Group level. Any modification will affect all projects within the group, not just the project where the change is made.
